PM Modi Lays Foundation Stone of Ganga Expressway, Here's All You Need To Know

Lucknow: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday laid the foundation stone of the Ganga Expressway project in Uttar Pradesh's Shahjahanpur district.

The expressway is 594-km long six-lane and it will be the longest in Uttar Pradesh after completion. The Ganga expressway will connect western and eastern regions of the state.

While addressing the masses at Shahjahanpur, the Prime Minister said that it will open the doors of development for state.

''It will generate opportunity for thousands as industry will come and employment will be generated,'' he added.

The 594 Km long six-lane Expressway will be built at a cost of over Rs 36,200 crore.

Ganga Expressway Highlights

According to an official statement, starting near the Bijauli village in Meerut, the Expressway will extend till near the Judapur Dandu village in Prayagraj. It passes through Meerut, Hapur, Bulandshahr, Amroha, Sambhal, Budaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, RaeBareli, Pratapgarh and Prayagraj.

A 3.5 Km long air strip for assisting emergency take off and landing of Air Force planes will also be constructed on the Expressway in Shahjahanpur. An industrial corridor is also proposed to be built along the Expressway.

The Expressway will also give a fillip to multiple sectors including industrial development, trade, agriculture, tourism etc. It will provide a big boost to the socio-economic development of the region.

In addition, there will be nine public convenience centers, seven railway overbridges, 14 major and 126 minor bridges as well as 381 underpasses on the expressway.

Apart from these, the Ganga Expressway which was approved on November 26, 2020, is set to reduce the travel time between Delhi and Prayagraj to just 7 hours.

The expressway is expected to be completed by 2024.
